the perfect gift {reclaimed wood sign}

I was killing sometime one day and happen to stop in a vintage, shabby chic store in Wilmington, NC.  I stumbled across the perfect reclaimed wood sign and had to have it.

Not only did I need it but my front door also NEEDED to match it.

These cute, custom made signs can be purchased on Etsy.  Bonnie Rose, the vision behind the Dockside Cottage shop uses reclaimed wood from docks up and down the Intracoastal Waterway.  Her signs truly are a piece of art.  The wood is weathered-grey and the rope detail adds the perfect coastal charm.  If you message her, she may also sell you one of the cute boat anchors that I purchased!  Enjoy!

messy hair, don't care {idiot proof styling}

There are pretty much two ways to wear my hair; stick straight or bed head.

I was not born with the talent of being hair savvy, so you can see why these two products are golden to me!  They make me look like I know what I am doing when I have no clue.

First up, is the Hair Donut.  It's amazing.  It makes the prettiest bun.  It's so simple you will be ahhmazed you didn't know about this sooner.  And to think....  you thought, donuts only went in your mouth.  You can also makes these out of socks.  I however, choose to buy mine.  I don't like heavy things on my head or dirty socks :)  They come in brown, black and blonde as well as an assortment of sizes.

Here is the low down on how. {clueless about the music??}

For those who have an inner Martha.... here is how to make one out of a sock.  {check out her sweet bunny!}

Next, I want to introduce the Spin Pin by Goody.  These are also a really cool way of making a messy bun with no hair tie required.  I am slightly obsessed with these.  I suggest ordering them by clicking the link since they are almost ALWAYS sold out in Target. One spin pin is said to equal like 20 bobby pins!!

{im}perfectly wrapped

I try my hardest to get along with everyone.  Truly, I do.

I find, often I, as well as others are misjudged because of family and friends'.

So many times, we judge people.  Guilty by association.  We've all done it. When in the reality things are not always as they seem.

We must remember we are all individuals.  We all have different views.  I am not my mother, father, sister or friend.  I have a mind of my own which forms its own opinions.

Most people have the hardest time understanding, we can agree to disagree.

I try to remind myself that all packages are wrapped differently.  You never know what someone is going through.

I don't know who wrote this but it's perfectly said....
Did you know the people that are the strongest are usually the most sensitive? Did you know the people who exhibit the most kindness are the first to get mistreated? Did you know the one who takes care of others all the time are usually the ones who need it the most? Did you know the 3 hardest things to say are I love you, I'm sorry, and Help me. Sometimes just because a person looks happy, you have to look past their smile and see how much pain they may be in.
Those that are so quick to judge, may be missing out on something amazing.  An opportunity, a friendship, a love.....the possibilities are endless.

Why not take the first step and find out what's under the wrapping?

latest obsession {the minimal shoe}

I am obsessing over my latest purchase.... my new birthday shoes!!

Different, yes, but they go with everything.  What to call them?  Is it a boot.... sandal.... heel.....?  Who knows.
Regardless, they are pretty awesome.

I have worn them now for almost two weeks.  Easy to get on and very comfy.  I've worn them with shorts, jeans and dresses ~ extremely versatile!  They fit true to size.  To purchase click here.

faith of a mustard seed

Hi.  It's been a while.

I have been searching for inspiration in clothes, magazines, etc.  When all along the inspiration has been right here in front of me....

When I got pregnant 9 years ago, no book or conversation with another mother could have prepared me for the life altering event that would happen 9 months later.

Motherhood....the hardest, longest and most rewarding job I will ever have.

No one prepares you for the overwhelming love that fills your heart, the first moment you lay eyes on such a small being.  I cry just reminiscing.

My first experience at motherhood was Zoe- a healthy, precious little baby.  Zoe was a typical little girl growing up- outgoing and lively.  She always had the most compassionate heart, loves animals and "Craft Queen" is her name.  She hit milestones like every other child her age.  Life was perfect.

When Zoe entered school, we notice a slow change in her.  My perky and energetic little girl was slowing turning into an introvert.  We didn't know why, we blamed her age and birthdate (born in June makes her young for her class).

We managed life until 3rd grade when emotions took a downward spiral.  After a lot of testing and doctor's visits she was diagnosed with a hearing problem called APD (Auditory Processing Disorder).  APD can't be corrected by surgery or medication but over time therapy will help her cope.
{Experience what Zoe would during a normal school day. Click here.} Just click BEGIN.
My world was a wreck.  For a while, I was upset.

I cried.

However, life doesn't stop.  I had to be strong.  For her.  For us.  Joseph and I made some pretty big decisions and made a lot of changes.  We have seen such tremendous positive change in her.  My little cocoon is finally blooming.  She is coming out of this shell with the help of some pretty amazing therapist, friends and family.

Since this discovery, we have learned Zoe can read lips (we had no idea).  She is ambidextrous which explains why she is so great with her hands.

I have become thankful for her diagnosis.  God has his hands in this, to protect her from something, to allow her room for greatness.  I have no doubt God has wonderful plans for Zoe and by faith, I believe this whole heartedly.

Words cannot express how much I love this child.  She inspires me to be a better person.  To love like I have never been hurt.  To break free of my own shell.

I love her spirit.
I love her heart.
I love her courage.
I love her every being.

This picture was taken after Zoe's last softball game where they were beaten. To put it correctly, slaughtered by a team in which 9 of her friends from her travel ball team are on.  Rather than complain of the defeat, this is what I find.  "After a great game! Good job to [two] Guys Grill."

As I look at this Instagram picture, that a selfless 8 year old posted congratulating her friends for their victory, I had a "Ahh haa" moment as a mother that "she's going to be just fine".
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.  Romans 8:28

CLEAN Cleanse {detox}

A new year and 3 months later....

I love to detox!  From colon cleansing, liver cleansing to full body cleansing.  They rejuvenate me and get my diet back on track.  My latest cleanse has by far been my favorite.  I lost 8 pounds during the cleanse in a month and have kept 5 pounds off afterwards.  I feel incredible and light.

The CLEAN Cleanse was developed by Dr. Alenjandro Junger who believes that our bodies will heal themselves when we provide the right nutrition all while removing common food allergens.  You can do this in two ways:  buy the cleanse directly from CLEAN Cleanse Program or you can buy Dr. Junger's book CLEAN where you can learn all the supplements needed for the cleanse.  I bought it direct which made it easier since all the shake mixes and supplements are pre-packaged.

Of course, there is an "approved" food list that you can choose from and recommended supplements.  Check it out here --> approved food list.

The actual cleanse contains three steps:

  • Pre-Cleanse
  • Cleanse
  • Reintroduction

During the "Pre-Cleanse" you eat three full meals a day off the approved list.
I suggest starting the pre-cleanse earlier.  I started about two weeks before my cleanse start date.  For two reasons, first I needed to cutoff my caffeine addition and second, my love for cheese and sugar. I had a headache for three days after walking out of my love affair with Java Joe.  A couple years ago, I had food allergy testing and the results was devastating to me.  I was allergic to dairy (which I knew), gluten and coconut ~ ALL of which I craaaave!!!  So in a nut shell, starting my pre-cleanse earlier made the actual cleanse much easier to finish since it gave me time to cut out my cravings.

The actual "Cleanse" lasts 21 days of which you drink a shake for breakfast/dinner and a meal for lunch.  You take supplements 3 times a day after each meal and get a "twelve-hour window" for digestion.
The first five days were the toughest, after that the routine set in.  I started making my shakes before my cleanse start date so I could get the "taste" just right.  I used the vanilla shakes and if I wanted chocolate I just added cocoa powder.  I also hired a food service delivery for fresh vegetables and fruit every week to our house {Backyard Produce}.  This was a lifesaver.  It saved me the trip to the grocery store as well as opened my eyes to great new veggies I would have never bought on my own.

The "Reintroduction" process is where you slowly start eating in small portions any food that isn't on the approved list.
This is the part of the cleanse where hopefully the old habits stay "old".  The reintroduction stage wasn't rocket science for me since I already know what I have sensitivities to.  However, for most, just stick with the approved list and reintroduce one new food item at a time.  If it makes you sick, hurts your tummy or makes you feel bad, DON'T eat it.  Simple as that!!

Most important part of the entire cleanse.....Don't forget to poop!  You must have at least one BM a day.

T.I.M. {the instant makeover}

Last year at Christmas I was "in the chair" at Blush Haus of Beaute getting highlights complaining how I hated the dress I was wearing for my husband's company party.  Well, in a matter of 30 minutes, one phenomenal force had "the" dress and shoes with my credit card in hand.  He saved my life.  Please check out my friend Steven's blog over at The Instant Makeover.

I'm blushing that I was someone's inspiration but very appreciative because he made my day!  I love you, Steven!  Thanks for being the sweet, compassionate person you are!  We need more of you in the world.

2013 {reflection + resolutions}

Happy New Year!  I know it's been a while and I apologize.  I have no excuse other than the holidays make life crazy.  I'm sure you can relate....

Christmas Break
Kids are out of school and still waking up at 6 am.  Last minute holiday shopping.  Planning meals.  Wrap this.  Deliver that.  Kids fighting.  Drinking begins.  Move the elf.

Pre-Christmas + Christmas Festivities
12-30 family members packed in a room all with different opinions.  Kids running wild like baboons - all jacked up on sweets.  Continue drinking.  Move the elf.  Slowly losing sanity.

Post Christmas
7 am - kids start to sleep in, shocker!  Not only have I gained 5 pounds the trees have also.  Reality sets in.  The tree is not going to fit back in the box.  House looks like the North Pole and Toys 'r Us vomited.  Continue drinking and give up.

First Day of School
6 am, rude awakening.  Can't decide if I am hungover or just drunk from lack of sleep.  Dress both kids while they are sleeping, wrestle them in the car.  Pray for their teacher.  Attend an AA meeting.

Obviously, I am embellishing but you have to admit that's how it feels.  We had a pretty ahhmazing Christmas this year.  Possibly one of my favorites.  Here are a few of my favorite pictures.

2013!!  A new year, a new you!
Every year it's same old thing, I make a new years resolution and typically.... I fail.  Surprise!!!  However, it beats the alternative of not being here to make one.

Seriously though, if we all achieved our new year's resolution {NPR} every year for our whole lives.  Think about it!  Then the world would be full of healthy (#1 new year's resolution), perfect people and NYR's wouldn't exist.  I think I'll just take this year off.  :)

Not to set myself up for disappointment, I am not calling this a new year's resolution.  But rather my "Resolution in the Works" since I will continue to work on them till the day I am truly made perfect (aka dead).  I will strive in 2013 to....

~ appreciate, "right now"
~ worry less, love more
~ become a "detailed" prayer
~ do yoga
~ close a wound & open my heart
~ read my bible
~ be a better person
~ blog more

Found this at a cute little blog called The Atelier Blog.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Happy 2013!  What are you 2013 wishes?
